The wonderful world of work
Year six had a visit from the Civil Service to talk to them about what jobs they might like to do when they are older. They had to think of some of the ways in which they would benefit from working before a bit of dress-up and thinking about getting promoted.

Young Scientists
Thirty Year 6's were lucky enough to be chosen to visit UCLAN to take part in a workshop about DNA and inheritance. We had a brilliant morning.....
Dressing like scientists was the first order of the day!
Dressing like scientists was the first order of the day!
Then we moved on to the serious stuff - spitting into a cup! (Totally gross!!)
From this, using a range of scientific processes, everybody extracted their DNA (the stuff that makes them 'them') and put it into a necklace.
After taking a cheek swab, we were able to see what our cells actually look like.
The whole morning received a thumbs up from the Thames scientists.
Random facts to finish...
did you know your DNA is 99.5% similar to any other human's DNA,
approximately 96% similar to a chimpanzee,
approximately 84% similar to a dog
and
approximately 50% similar to a BANANA!!!
